Ranos Tag
The Ranos Tag is the Heavy Duty / rugged version of the Ranos product line. The noise measurements can be sent via LoRaWAN. In addition, the Tag can send short sound fragments via 4G.
DSS combines LoRaWAN and 4G for its sound measurement technology. The Ranos Tag uses the LoRa network for environmental sound monitoring and transmits audio files via 4G when decibels are exceeded. These audio files can be analyzed further in the cloud by spectrum analysis and AI sound recognition. This way, we get the best of both network technologies and we can provide a plug & play device powered by a solar panel.
The Tag is designed for the professional market of noise measurements and can operate under harsh conditions. The Tag can be fed by:
- Grid (230/110 V);
- Battery;
- Battery and solar panel.
The Tag has LoRa connectivity and works fully autonomously and can therefore be used anywhere in the world. The housing is completely waterproof and made of recyclable HIPS material.
IEC 61672
The Ranos Tag meets the Class 1 requirements of the IEC standard. The Class 1 version reaches the highest accuracy thanks to an additional calibration performed across the entire frequency range. This is turned into a so-called FIR, which is uploaded via the DSS Connect app.
Electret condenser microphone
The microphone of the Tag is detachable and can be mounted at any desired location. Optionally, a 1.5 meter, 3.0 meter and 5.0 meter microphone extension cable is available. The microphone type is an “electret condenser microphone” and the directivity is omni-directional.
Audio performance
The audio performance of the Ranos Tag is very high. The Tag has a dynamic range of 33 – 121 dB and a DSP sample rate of 48 kHz. You can measure the following entities: LAeq, LCeq, dB (A) fast, dB (A) slow, dB (C) fast, dB (C) slow. The time weighting is fast, slow and Leq. In addition, the measurements interval can be customized via the app or the cloud.
Sustainable housing
Highly rigid and using plastic HIPS, the housing is lightweight and quite suitable for years of intensive use. HIPS (High Impact PolyStyrene) has a fire retardant effect. This is an absolute requirement because a lead battery is used as a backup.
Water-resistant
We also made sure the interior is water-resistant, with venting holes in the housing exterior. While gas and moisture can escape through the valves, no moisture can enter. This way, the PCB will consistently operate in an optimally dry environment. Should any of the components or glands allow moisture to pass through over time, the bottom plate valve ensures any moisture is drained off.
- The microphone can be easily unscrewed. The recess has an on / off button and a USB port to connect the smartphone (an app).
- The housing has a lid on one side. The user manual explains how to remove the cover. The interior contains the PCB, the cabling and the lead battery.
- The dB 1 can be attached to a pole or lamppost. We also supply a wall mount and a pole clamp for this. The dB 1 can be placed anywhere (table top).
- Outdoor (IP67)
Battery
The Ranos Tag can be connected directly to a lithium battery. The battery has an energy capacity of 375 Wh and a working temperature -10° to 65° Celsius (14° to 149° Fahrenheit). Its dimensions are 206 x 113 x 86 mm (4.29 x 5.12 x 1.77 inch). The protection rate IP 65 (protection from dust and water jetting) and it has an electronics protection. Temperature / over (dis) charge / short circuit. The lithium battery is sold separately.
Solar-powered
The Ranos Tag can be connected to a solar panel and function together with the battery 24/7, all year round. The solar panel is available separately.
LoRa network
The Ranos Tag communicates via LoRa. We can deliver to all LoRa (frequency) regions in the world. The device is suitable for LoRaWAN Class C networks, allowing the cloud server to send direct and undelayed messages to the Ranos Tag. This enables continuous adjustability of measurement settings, characteristics and network configurations.
Uplink and Downlink
As the Ranos Tag can both send uplinks and receive downlinks, it is quite easy to operate from any cloud platform. Do you wish to set how often you receive certain measurements? No problem! You can also switch the GPS on and off. Refer to the DSS Connect App manual to find out exactly how this works and which settings are available.
DSS Connect App
You can connect the Ranos Tag to your Android smartphone or tablet with the included USB cable. The Android app will open automatically. In the app, you can create an account and register the Ranos Tag. The app recognizes the Tag by its unique serial number. You can then enter the LoRa keys and send them to the device. The app itself checks whether the Ranos Tag has the most recent firmware version installed and uploads and installs the firmware after you have given permission. For Class 1, the app is used to upload the FIR to the sensor in order to get a frequency response complying with IEC Standard Class 1 requirements.
Under Support you will find the user manual of the DSS Connect App with a full description of the possibilities and options. The app can be downloaded from Google Play.
GPS on board
The Ranos Tag has GPS on board. Geolocation can be useful if the device is used in different locations and you would like to know where it was installed. The GPS can also be used for synchronizing the internal clock. For noise measurements, the time must be sent directly with the measured values. The use of GPS can be set in the DSS Connect App.
Payload description
We deliver a complete package including all information on integrating the Ranos Tag with your dashboard environment. The package consists of a parser for code testing and a sample code in Javascript.
Data visualization
DSS has its own data platform that integrates seamlessly with the Ranos Tag. This is available for three months starting from the date of purchase. In addition, we offer an integration with Datacake and we can assist you in displaying the data in any desired IoT platform.
